Hi.
Sorry if this sounds petty, but i cant find any old posts to guide me here!
I got a DVX100 yesterday but it wont connect to my computer. i have used the friewire cable with a friends little camera and it captured to vegas fine, but it dose not see the dvx100 at all! is there another capture program i can use to see if the hardwere is ok? i feel like thee is just some little thing i am not doing. grrrr. :( Any help would be very helpfull.
i vegas 4, running in winXP

Unfortunatly it most likely has nothing to do with your NLE. Did you get your DVX used? If it is new, send it back, it sounds like your fire wire port is fried. If you got it used, maybe you can get the person who sold it to you to take it back and refund your money. If it is a grey market model, you may be out of luck and need to pay to have it fixed. I really hope that it is a new camera, as this is no way to start out your time with the DVX.

A grim outlook. it is an ex-rental camera with no warrenty, but they might be feeling generus. i thought i would try some other programs to see if the same thing happen, and then as i was plugging the camera back in, the plug on the end of the firewire cable fell off in my hand! i have never been so releaved to have a cable fall apart. so the camera might still be ok, it was just a dodgy cable . . . . . ahhhhh. i will get a new one and try agean =)
thanks

I hope it's nothing as severe as a bad camera. Hopefully it's a WinXP Service Pack 2 or driver conflict. Can you take the camera to a few other computers and try it out? Can Windows Movie Maker recognize it on other computers?

Yeah, here's to hoping, but if his friends DV camera worked, that is really just bad news for him.

Still, if you got a good deal on it, ( I hope so, being an ex-rental) you can always use a different camera for capturing. The general consensus on here is not to use the DVX for capture anyway.

I have a new cable ($29.95 AU grrrrr) YES! IT'S ALIVE! yeah. wow, that was a stressfull few hours. it's al working.

it is a good idea to get somthing else to capture. like a deck or another cheap camera. Althow my camera has 960 HRS on the heads, so it might be just as expencive to replace the heads soon rather then just buy a captureing device.

What is a cheap capturing deck? . . . I'll go and look at some other thredes.

but besides all that . . . . yaa i am now a DVX100 user, it's an exciting time.
