capturing problem with dvx100a and premiere pro cs4

I'm having trouble capturing footage with dvx100a and Premiere pro cs4. I can play, pause, and rewind my camera using the buttons on premiere's capture window, but it says "capture device offline" and the footage doesn't show up. I'm using a a 720p timeline and i'm not shooting in progressive mode (So I guess 60i?). If there is an error in my configuration, could someone tell me the best quality setting to use for shooting and capturing? I don't really want to shoot in progressive mode because I'm scared the slower frame rate will make my footage look choppy. (I'm shooting primarily action sports).

This is probably happening because you are using an SD capture device in a HD timeline, premiere will be looking for hdv deck to capture from. capture your footage in a new SD project then import it into a HD timeline afterwards and you should have no problem.
