Capturing problem in vegas 6

I connected my camera to the pc and when I tried to capture it said



The device "Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device" could not be opened.

Please make sure that is turned on and is not being used by another user or application


Does anyone knoq how to correct this ?
 
Some other program is accessing it. This could be anything from another editing app, to AIM thinking it's connected as a webcam. Reboot, and make sure startup doesn't load any unnecessary applications.

Sometimes the computer or vegas may not detect when the camera is connected. Usually this can be fixed with rebooting the computer and/or Vegas plus disconnecting and reconnecting the camera. My Canon HV20 has this problem sometimes, but it was never hard to fix.

yeah well now i got it to recognize after 3 days of trying now the preview wont work on it, im about ready to throw a bat to my computer im not even kidding the amount of despair im feeling right now is unbearable

Hi. I actually stopped using Vegas to capture. I use CineForm Prospect HD now, but I realize that probably doesn't do you much good. Just out of curiosity I just tried to capture HDV in Vegas 6 and now all of a sudden it works!!?? I'm going to try it now on Vegas 8 to see what happens there. Ok did it and it works there too. All I can think of is that I installed the Vegas 8.0c update. This was a known Vegas issue and they must have fixed it in the new software update. It appears to have done the job for both 6 and 8. I don't know if there was any kind of update available for 6. Another option of course would be HDVSplit. Hope this helps. I'm sending this as a reply to your pm as well as posting it.
