GH4 Capturing from GH4 with a Matrox MXO2 mini

Has anyone been successful at being able to capture from the GH4s HDMI port using a Matrox MXO2 mini or similar devise to their computer?
I have tried but can not get a usable signal.

I have not tried, as I don't have the need.

But, I would double check your camera settings to make sure they match your MXO settings first.

What format are you shooting with? Are you shooting 24p and not 23.976p? If so the Matrox will not work with that I don't think. It was designed as a broadcast video device and will likely need 23.976.

I've tried 1080p 23.98 as well as 1080p 29.97, no luck with either. - Camera set for .MOV mode
GH4 is set to output 1080 at 8 bit
Matrox is set for the correct format, Capture is being tried thru the Matrox Vetura capture app or thru Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014
Neither app receives a signal from the GH4

There's a problem with the hdmi output of the GH4 - well documented if you look at Atomos Shogun threads. Although Panasonic describe the sensor output as 25p/30p, it outputs 50p/60p from hdmi. We hope for a firmware upgrade sometime in November

mr bill, Does this mean that if I set my capture to 60p, it will work? I'm doubtful as it seems like no signal at all is passed thru to the Matrox box.
I will give it a try. Atomos Shogun is not currently working with the GH4?

I don't think the Matrox MXO2 Mini supports 1080p60 capture.

One other thing I've noticed about the GH4 is if you set the recording mode to AVCHD (one of the 1080i settings) then it seems to output a 1080i signal over the HDMI port. You could give this a try and see if the Matrox Mini recognizes the 1080i signal.

For 60p you could try 1280x720p 59.94p on the GH4. I have done so with my GH3 to do some live video streaming through a BlackMagic Thunderbolt device. I realize this may not be what you want to shoot but it will at least tell you if your devices are working together. Since the Blackmagic also doesn't support 1080p 60p that is pretty much the only format I can capture in besides, vomit, 1080i.

HDMI signals are insanely picky. This is why being limited to 1080i 29.97 HDMI output for so many years on cameras was a bit of a blessing in many ways. It really did eliminate so many potential problems. Switching both devices to 1080i could help if that is an option. 23.976 in a 1080i signal doesn't have to be bad as long as you are capturing to a 4:2:2 format.

davedv, yes, I tried that (setting the camera to AVCHD mode) but still no go. Thomas Smet - thanks - I will give 1280X720 59.94 a try and see what happens.
You're right things were some much easier before all of these various format options became available.
