Capturing footage?

Hey guys.

I've been browsing the DVX Footage section and have noticed a lot of your grabs look waaay cleaner than anything I'm getting. I was wondering if the application one uses to capture footage makes a big difference on how the footage turns out?

Thanks.

dv is data and all that happens in a firewire transfer is the reading of the data and the writing of said data to wherever you're storing it. if you are comparing your shots to others here please note that i for one use a lot of light and do some color correction once in the NLE. however you might want to read this...

Uncompressed capture

you really don't need that big of a step, but it can make a difference. however the real point being. lighting, lighting, lighting and then adjust to your heart's content in your NLE.

Well, a compressed WMV or something might actually blur out some grain.

Anyway, check that you don't use gain, and keep the shutter between F.4-F.8 if you want a really clean image. Also expose correctly, so you don't have to lighten up in post, that also adds a lot of grain.

Hi MiniMan,

When you mentioned to keep the shutter between F.4-F.8, I think you meant to keep the iris at F.4-F.8 as I come to know that F stands for the size of the iris. Please clarify. Thanks.
