Capturing footage onto my computer inquiry!!!

is there some device that I could purchase that would allow me to log footage so I don't have to use, and put wear, onto my DVX?

A logging tape deck?

I would like one because I have filmed and and logged many things on my dvx's tape deck.

and preferably inexpensive.

On a side note, I heard you can also you other older mini-dv cameras to log footage. But if you filmed onto a master tape and on the DVX and used a canon 1ccd dv camera would it have any negative influence onto the tape of the footage?

I suggest using the cheap camera as a deck if you don't have any money to buy one. You won't loose any quality in my opinion all the parts in the camera that are working are video heads that are almost same in all camcorders. Almost. Just make sure that you plug your camcorder in the charger while you transfer your footage to computer to make your heads run at the fastest speed so you haven't any dropped frames. Or do it wireless with a full charged battery. I had dropped frames with my old 1ccd camera when the battery status was low and when I recharged it completely I hade zero dropped frames. Hope this will be helpful to you.

You won't lose any quality whatsoever using a cheaper cam as a deck, which is a very cost-effective substitute for a real deck. But, if you've put different tapes through the cheaper cam, then I wouldn't go putting your logged tapes back into your DVX because they may have a detrimental effect on your heads.

dearly noted. Yeah and I was mostly worried about the wear and tear of my dvx's head. So i will use an older camera, but will not use the tape after its been in the other camera.

cheers.
