Capturing footage from a Sony EX1 using my HVX???

So I have 3 tapes from a Sony EX1 and I am trying to capture using my Panasonic HVX 200 using Final Cut Pro. I am used to using P2 so I am a bit lost capturing from tape.

Help?

ex1 uses SxS cards, it's completely solid state. it will not fit in your hvx slot. are u running pc or mac? can u get the ex1 to capture from?

Sounds like you have tapes from an older Sony, not an EX1. If they're HDV, then no, you can't play them in an HVX. If they're standard def DV tapes, then they will (or at least should) play, and you can ingest them into FCP via firewire.

I have yet to do this with mine yet though, so perhaps someone else here can walk you through the steps. I do know that with my old Sony TRV950 it's pretty much about plugging it in via FW and selecting the correct preset for the camera in FCP's setup menu. Then FCP controls everything including the camera's tape transport. Easy as pie...
