Capturing DVX Footage With IMOVIE

I was wondering if IMOVIE is capable of capturing/editing DVX footage (espeically the 24p stuff) without damaging the quality of the footage? Thanks in advance.

imovie are hard to work with when try to sync up video and audio like music video

No offense but why spend all the money on a DVX yet cut on imovie?

I currently use Premiere Pro 2 and it can handle virtually any format on earth but a cheap opption is probally something in the Avid Liquid family (I presume it can do 24p!)

I don't understand this idea about spending all the money on a DVX then using iMovie.

I use FCP. I love FCP. But some people just need to cut their shots together and output a movie.

Maybe they don't have enough interest in editing to get into FCP (For the record FCP is actually really simple to use it just looks daunting).

Back when I was at college we used a Steenbeck. iMovie has one or two more features than that.

It doesn't degrade your footage. It lets you edit frame by frame. It works well with the rest of the iLife suite.

Oh and it come free with a $1000 laptop!

Agreed, FCP is actually quite simple to use, especially if you're not doing anything more than you could do in iMovie.

However, I've used iMovie plenty of times for my instructional DVDs (before I got the HVX and started shooting in DVCPRO50) and it works just great. No degrading of footage.

Don't presume. It can't remove pulldown.

I did not think iMovie supports 24P. Does it?

it probably would the 24p but not the 24pa.
Either 24p or 24pA can be edited on a 60i timeline. But 24p is better for this purpose.

iMovie doesn't have a 24p timeline and does not remove pulldown, so either way, you're editing in 60i.

well I would advise staying away from iMovie, I've had some pretty bad problems with it. I would capture the footage and while I was in the middle of working with it the program would crash and all of my captured footage would wind up in the trash folder. I now use FCP and its quite user friendly compared to some other things out there like Avid or After Effects 7.

I just edited HVX (w/slo-mo footage) in iMove. It works fine.

Why? Because I had to.

Working with a PowerBook without FCP, I had to shoot and edit over the weekend. I shot both DV 24p and 720p 24p Native. I dubbed the HD footage down to tape using the in-camera dubbing feature. Then captured and edited all the footage on the same widescreen timeline in iMove.

Had fun and got paid!
