hello i hope this not a stupid question...... i just got my new dvx100b and i want to start good practices as far as up keep goes. if i shoot lets say a music video with the dvx100b can i use my cheaper mini dv camcorder (best buy sold camera for family stuff) to capture the footage to my computer and if so will i lose anything as far as quality i only want to use the dvx100b to record the footage.

A cheap DV camera is a perfectly fine option for using it as a deck. Mind you, it's not as fast as a real deck and may limit you on editing options, but for capturing and passthrough monitoring it's a bargain and works just fine.

As long as you only use the same tape in your cheap camera you use in the DVX you should be fine. Using different types of tape is always the problem however.

so it does not make a difference quality wise when using any home camcorder to capture footage?

what about using a expensive panasonic tape, putting this into a sony camcorder to capture, can I reuse it in my dvx without worrying about that the lubrication changed due to inserting it into a sony camcorder??

sorry, do not know much about tapes, but know that sony and panasonic use different lubrications.... just wondering if cameras can alter or diminish the tape quality by using it in different camcorders

Any problems which arise from different lubrications or cheaper tape don't affect the video quality per se. It's always just 1s and 0s, and you get 'em, or you don't. That which you get will always be full quality, no matter what you record them on or what you capture with. But a messed-up tape can prevent you from capturing all of the 1s and 0s, in which case the result will not be a loss of "quality" in terms of resolution or color or anything like that, but lost blocks of data. You'll see that in the form of dropouts.
