capturing - dv codec - premiere

I'm using premiere pro to capture and edit video, shot by dvx102b.

I had tried matrox dv codec. And now, when i right click -> properties, of captured dv Avi file, i see that, it has "Video compression: DigiVCap"

I searched the internet and according to that, this is matrox codec.

Premiere selects it as default dv capture codec... (at least i think so.. Because there isn't such a configuration. You can not change or look in to details of capture codec if you choose "dv pal".

Which codec i should set as defalt dv codec for best compatibility and quality with my dvx102b? Also, does this matrox codec create, or can it create, visual artifacts, bad re-compression, loosing color details, or any other problems?

Can it be effective on compressing red channel and can it be the reason of the more visible saw-tooth or stair-step effect, etc?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Best Regards.

Codec doesn't really matter when capturing. A capture is a simple file transfer from the camera, and no recommpression occurs. Granted, it will be dumped into a file bucket that is marked with the codec of your choice, but it doesn't effect the image.

It will matter which codec you use once you start rendering out and recompressing.

There is nothing you can do about stairstepping in any DV codec, since they all do the same color subsampling to be compliant with DV standard.
