capturing already pulled down 24pa?

Hey all,

I'm having trouble exporting my short in FCP6. I posted my problem with this in the FCP forum. I was wondering though, I filmed my short in 24pa, captured it into FCP with the pulldown preset and edited on a 24 fps timline. I then printed to tape (when I print to tape the video everything works fine). If I wanted to recapture this video (in its complete and rendered form) would I capture at 29.97 or should I apply the pulldown again (I'm afraid of applying a pulldown on a pulldown) when I capture. Also if I do capture in something other than 24 will it become interlaced?

Thanks,

North

Hey North45co,

When you print your video back to tape because of NTSC standards, it cannot be done at 24p without having a pulldown in it. So since you got your video back to tape and it looks fine, it's should be 24p + pulldown inside a 60i stream (like your original recorded footage). I would say you just have to do the same process when you captured your original footage into FCP to get it back off the tape.

If you capture at something other then 24p, say 29.97, you will have the 24p + pulldown so it will have interlaced frames in the pulldown frames. This means in every group of 5 frames you will have 3 progressive and 2 interlaced frames if it's an advanced pulldown. This pulldown can be remove by your NLE(though only maybe upon capture) or a program like DVFilm Maker. Maker also processes 60i to 24p with filmlook or can add a pulldown back in. DVFilm is having a 25% off sale until Xmas as well.

Hope this helps,
Andy

Thank you! It's much appreciated.

I wasn't sure about the 24p in a 60i stream, but it seems to look the same after pulldown so i guess it worked!
