Capture/Transferring DVX100A footage

I have a question for you DVX techies.A friend said I shouldnt use the DVX100A to transfer my footage over to computer since it uses the heads and it adds to the hours of usage. Does he have relevance to this statement?

If so, Can I use any MiniDV camera (not my DVX) to use as a capture deck? My only concern would be when capturing footage shot in 24P mode. Would it transfer fine using a regular minidv camera bought at any retailer?

This question pops up frequently, so search the forum for detailed response. The short answers are:

1. Many people use a cheaper camera for capturing. It can be expensive to repair the DVX.

2. 24P works fine when captured from other cameras. It's a standard DV stream. (Caveat: some people may have experienced problems with some cameras. If you want to be safe, use a specific model that others have used successfully.)
