I dont know whether to post this in fcp or here, but i decided this might be better so here we go.

when you guys capture using fcp do you use the apple intermediate codec thing? or just the hdv1080i preset.

ive been using the hdv108060i, but i realized that their was the codec and i was just wondering whether their is a difference and if their was any limitations to each one. by limitations i guess i mean, can i edit stuff captured with hdv108060i with the apple codec.

Do not use the apple intermediate codec. It's lossy and takes up three times more space on your hard drive. The HDV presets will bring in your footage in its native HDV format with no conversion, so you'll have the highest quality possible. If you want you can convert the HDV to another codec after the fact, but I'd got with DVCPRO HD or an uncompressed format if your machine can handle it. The AIC codec is a hangover from pre FCP 5 ImovieHD and is a lousy format to edit with.
