Capture Problem

***Please forgive the following question if it is a rather newbie thing to ask!***

For the last few months I've been using a DVX100A and couldn't be happier. I have a 4 year old powerbook that I capture to, off of the dvx by firewire. Never had an issue. Recently I purchased a refurb Imac, one of the new models. Since I got it, I have not been able to capture from the DVX onto it. Oddly enough, I don't think it is my capture presets/options that is the problem. I use the firewire port all the time to connect external hard drives. When I plug in the firewire cable to the DVX though, the camera device is not even registering on the mac. I called up Apple, and they were not able to help at all. They suggested I contact my "manufacturer" for a new firewire cable. TO me this doesn't make sense. I know the camera/wire is fine, if I can capture to my powerbook. What I don't understand is why my imac is not even reading the camera connected.
HAs anyone encountered this before? Is there a driver or installation type software I may need to install for the imac to read the camera?
