this is an unrelated topic but if anyone can help me out then thanks,
we use a sony hdv deck at work to capture SD shot on hvx200 and HDV shot on Z1 without problems,
been given 3 mini dv tapes of footage shot in south africa on an unknown consumer mini dv cam,
when i try to capture using FCP 5.1.4 dv pal 48khz i get timecode and audio but no image, just the FCP colour bars, also tried using dv NTSC 48khz settings but still same problem,
any ideas?

The UK & South Africa both use the "PAL- I" colour broadcast system so you have to use the standard PAL settings in FCP like you would for your normal tapes. The problem most likely is the 3 tapes from Sth Afr are actually in a different format and although you may need to change the setting in FCP to NTSC etc you firstly need a camera/DV deck that can record/play in the colour system that tapes are in. If it's NTSC or SECAM none of your PAL gear will give you a working picture. Find out more info about the tapes then look at getting your hands on a matching DV unit to make the transfer... Hope this helps

thanks, i might be able to track down the cam they were shot with, if so can i capture from the cam to FCP??(regardless of wether it uses diff. colour system?)
