Capture Problem - Adobe Premiere

I have an iMac:

2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
320GB hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB

I've been trying to capture video but there is a sync problem between the audio and the video while it's capturing (you can hear the lag), and also once it has been added to a sequence. The sync is about 3 seconds difference, like a kung fu movie.

I've been capturing with a really cheap brand new Panasonic DV. I also tried my DVX to see if the camera was the issue but it is not.

Could it be the cable I'm using? Mac firewire connection to DV connection? It is an old cable, I'd like to try a different cable as soon as I can get to the apple store.

I'm also using the correct Panasonic Master tapes, and I'm sure my project settings are correct for DV-NTSC 48K audio 4:3.

The footage was shot 60i letterbox.

How are you listening to the sound from Premiere? Computer speakers? External monitors?

Do the captured clips play fine in an external player, or do they also have sync issues there?
