Capture D90 Footage on a Mac

I can't make the camera mount on my desktop. I can only access it's contents through aperture or iphoto, but I can't download videos through these applications...

Oh yeah. Maybe if you use the nikon software? Sometimes printers have a built-in card reader... other than that, looks like your stuck to stills until you get a SD card reader.

I'm pretty sure you need the Nikon Transfer software. If I remember correctly the camera wouldn't mount on my computer without that software. It's a free download from Nikon's website and should take care of your problem. Here's a link to the download.

What your encountering is because unlike earlier nikons, the D90 only show up as a camera (PTP device) rather than USB mass storage. Easiest solution, get a card reader, it'll be faster too.

So, is there a way to do it without a CF reader?

Tks!

There is an Apple application that you can set as default for image collecting instead of iPhoto, when you connect the camera with the USB-cable. I am not sure what the english name is - "Image collector" or something like that. The icon looks like a small camera. If you use that you see all images and film clips on the card and can choose which you want to transfer to your Mac. I use it all the time.

Thanks guys, I'll try image Capture.

I have two card readers, but sometimes I don't have them with me. Good to know I can still edit on my laptop without carrying extra stuff...

Well, iphoto itself works great too. It can be annoying that the files end up in the hidden iphoto folder structure but you can easily drag and drop them from the app to fcp.

I purchased the SanDisk Express Card Adapter model no.SDAD-109. It lives in the express card slot on the lapper. It is flush to the side when installed. It ran around $35.

I use aperture for files. You can have it open automatically when the sd card is inserted. I don't have a D90 yet, but can't see why it would work any different than my D50. It will also import your video files.
