Hi im a newbie to this forum:

I shot several tapes of photage using 24p advance on the panasonic dx100a. My
dilemma is i wont have the camcorder to capture the photage on to my computer/avid. I checked around were i live and no one rents any camcoreders that offer 24p option. Would anyone know if there is a way to capture 24p advance photage without using a camcorder that offers 24p and still get the 24p effect? i have a sony handycam 32 dv camera that i can use if that helps.

also i have a project im working on that i shot on 24p on a school coumputer. Since i already caputered it using 24p could i make a dv tape recording of all my photage/takes i shot and bring it to another computer/editing software without having to capture again to retain the 24p effect? my email is dbrown6007@aol.com

I Apologize for saying 24p to much. If anyone could help me with this dilemma i would greatly Appreciate it. :undecided

The footage is actually recorded to tape at 29.97 framerate. Pulldown is used to give you 24p in the editing environment. That pulldown removal process is handled by the software, not by the camera so as long as you have a camera or deck or something that will play miniDV tapes, then you can capture 24p footage shot with the DVX.

No, because to exist on miniDV the footage has to be at 29.97 fps. Cutting that footage to tape would add pulldown to change the framerate and then you would have to recapture and remove pulldown to get 24p. Now you could export a Quicktime film at 23.967 fps, and take that with you to avoid recapturing.

Thanks for that Krestofre. At my school we use FCP and whenever someone shoots in 24p advance they always capture useing the pannasonic dvx 100a. Do you know why that is, is FCP different in that regard? I believe the teacher at one time told me i needed to have the pannasonic dvx 100a to capute photage shot in 24p or else it would just look like any regular photage. Thats great though that i can just use a regular dv camcorder rather then rent a camcorder offering 24p.

I think your teacher was wrong.

Seriously, you can capture 24p material from anything that will play a miniDV tape ... and has a firewire port, but I guess that's obvious. :)

FCP wouldn't require the DVX either. The process is different in FCP, but you could still use any miniDV device.
