Captain Howdy

Re: Captain Howdy

Ok, Captain Howdy was a Twisted Sister Song, and later Dee Snider's character in his Strangeland movie, and this short is being directed by a guy from Poison.....coincidence? I dunno...but mostly irrelevant as my main comment really is the sound...everything else seems ok, editing, composition, etc...but the sound, yikes...seemed to be all captured with the on-board mic, and it's pretty distracting...I'm sure Rikki can invest in a decent mic for this...as it is now I'd say you'd pretty much have to ADR the whole deal...which is too bad, otherwise it seems interesting, but that sound has to be addressed...which of course, is just IMHO obviously ;D

Re: Captain Howdy

Yeah the sound...How did you capture your sound? It sounded tinny and far away at times. Otherwise looks ok.

Re: Captain Howdy

We used two shotgun mics, one Senheiser (don't recall the models) and a Audio technica.

The problem we had for the most part is that Rikki and I did everything in this movie. It was shot by just the two of us and we were on a very tight schedule due to me only being available for six days. We really did the work of many. Too much work that something was bound to suffer. We learned a lot and hope to have more help next time around.

I should have said, we did have some help here and there from cast members. Only when they wer'nt busy studing their lines or doing other odd arrands. But far as shooting goes, it was all Rikki and I. At times I was running two cameras while he was directing actors or holding the boom mic. It was all out Gorilla filming :) Like I said it was all in fun and we both learned a lot. Also it was our first time shooting together.

Re: Captain Howdy

The sound could have been better, but maybe my codec for putting it on the web was whacked, because it really isn't as bad as you are saying on the final DVD, etc.

Note: I had to create another user name because I tried to log in on Safari and I simply could not.

Re: Captain Howdy

BTW: The original title was "Ouija", but sounded generic. "Captain Howdy" is actually the font face on a Ouija board. I realized much later (after it was kinda too late), that Dee Snider did use that name in Stangeland. But, then again, William Peter Blatty used the name in the Exorcist as the name of the voice that spoke to Rags through the Ouija board.
