Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The trailer looked incredible. Kicked up my anticipation a lot. I'm not even a big Captain America fan at all.

Really good movie, and one of the best Marvel movies ever. #2 for me under Avengers with Iron Man 1 at #3. Really had some great social commentary in there as well...some of the best I've seen in a while. The car chase with Fury is probably one of the better action sequences I've seen in recent memory. One complaint is the camera work in some of the action (especially fighting) which in the first half of the movie overall made it hard to see what was going on. I hate it when you can tell they spent so much work on that stuff but then confuse us with cutting that's too fast and long lenses that don't let me understand the action. Oh well, other than that it was great.

I enjoyed the film as well. I guess camera work wise they went with the Bourne style. At least it wasn't that shaky camera wise.

Definitely had a 'Dark Knight' feeling.

I saw this on Friday at a mini-IMAX in 3D. Some of the action shots were a bit 3D-blurry, in fact the whole film seemed a bit underwhelming 3D-wise.

There were several character moments in this film, just two characters talking, that were amazingly sharp on the IMAX screen. If those shots were done on the 2k Alexa, then I think the need for 4k is way over rated. Maybe it was the IMAX screen, but some of those over the shoulder and close ups were pretty amazing.

I liked the film too, though the script kind of had some focus issues. The VFX work was pretty amazing. I may go see it again in plain 2D.

I saw it last night. Great movie, one of Marvel's best, and that's saying a lot. The hand to hand fight scenes were some of the best I've ever seen on film (or video, to be correct). I saw it in 3D, might go see it in 2D next time. And there will be a next time.

If you watch Agents of SHIELD, you really need to see this movie before the next episode airs.

Yeah, I don't know if it was my screen or not, but I noticed there were several out of focus shots. I saw in 2D.

Here is what they used on ther film.

I am so excited. lol!

I liked it. Solid, entertaining, a bit old-school in its approach. But I am starting to get the feeling that you could throw any random, competent director into the Marvel mega movie machine and it would still turn out roughly as good. Say what you will about the Nolan Batman's, but they still felt like one man's specific vision. The Marvel movies, while consistently better than the DC ones, are starting to become somewhat generic.

Um... no. Look at the last Spiderman movie (Andrew Garfield one). That, was crap. I rented it and shoved it back in the Netflix envelope by the 30 minute mark. And Spiderman is a considerably more compelling character than Cap. At least for the nerd kids like me. And Sony Pictures is no fly-by-night Hollywood lightweight.

I'm just sayin' Marvel is doing something right, and that's well beyond just throwing a random competent director at it.

I said STARTING to feel that way...The past few Disney/Marvel movies feel almost interchangeable stylistically. And I'm not saying I think that's literally true, I know the directors contribute to the quality. But there is a formula Marvel is refining that weakens any individual authorial stamp from the director. That's what I mean by generic.

Yup, I noticed the same thing as well. Mostly the fight scenes in the beginning. Not sure what was happening there.

But besides the above, I thought it was a very good movie. And I totally see what you are saying Batutta. Even though there are several directors to these movies, it does feel like there is one big vision directing it all, which is the Marvel Vision. That is a great observation Batutta.

But back to the movie, I really liked it, what I liked the most about it was the last 15 minutes. Not to give too much away, but that whole showdown and end result with Capt and the Winter Soldier was what did it for me. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. An action movie with a heart.

Too many "Jumped the Shark" moments. A disembodied Nazi scientist who's in a whole hanger of 1950's era tape based computers. The so called "Winter Soldier" is actually his old army buddy who lived, didn't age because of freezing, and was turned into a Hydra cyborg. Meh.
