GH4 Can't use Leica 42.5 with standard tripod plate

Sad but true. The Leica lens attached to the GH4 sticks out about 1mm from the bottom of the camera. Unsuccessfully tried to attach a standard 501 tripod plate to the bottom and it doesn't look possible without causing some damage to the lens.

There must be a plate that works for this lens, which will likely mean using something other than the Mafrotto 501 plate.

What about using the GH4 battery grip ?

Gitzo's GS5370C Quick Release Plate works with most of Manfrotto's (& Benro's) heads that accept the 501 plate. It also fits Satchler's "Side Load" heads, but due to how it clamps down I wouldn't use it for a heavy rig.

The Gitzo plate does not work with Manfrotto's new side-lock as found on the MVH500AH head.

Can you just put a 1-2mm thick spacing washer between the plate and the camera?

Had a similar issue with an Olympus lens. I'm waiting on a battery grip I ordered which should solve the problem.

This is my go to plate - I have about 15 of them for my different rigs and cameras.

On some jobs I rent sticks locally instead of flying my Satchler. If shooting the GH I'll bring a Gitzo's Quick Release Adapter.

There's plenty of good quick release systems available but I use Gitzo's for the cross compatibility with Satchler's "Side-Load", & Manfrotto's 501, plates.

Neat, didin't know they were all compatible.

I'm still primarily stills, so have AS plates on all my gear. Of course, I also have the battery grip, so that's another way to solve this problem.

I do the same just so i can quickly switch between gears. fits better in the bag also
