Can't read SSD from Odyssey 7Q+

Posting this here because there are Odyssey users here and the CD forum is one single thread and honestly a total mess...

So I got my 7Q+ yesterday and recorded some test clips in Prores HQ. I first formatted the SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) in the 7Q+.

Only when I connect the SSD to my Macbook (via the CD supplied USB3 adapter) it says format cannot be recognised. A quick check in disk utility can't even identify what format it is at all.

Then connected it to my Win 10 laptop, all I hear is the sound when you attach a USB device but the SSD drive doesn't show up in windows...

what am I missing here? I couldn't find anything related formatting workflow etc. on the CD website or through google searches.

If the clips are not important try reformatting to see if it will read. Ive had this happen a few times on shoots and theres a program called pic rescue 2 that was able to save the footage. Just curious what camera were you using?

Incidentally I just decided to sacrifice the clips and it's working now. Good thinking! I'm using the 7Q+ on my Varicam 27H and F23 but plan on using it mostly with my GH5 to get Prores. Panasonics own 10bit codec causes me issues in post.

:undecided I would hope nothing goes wrong after spending so much on a professional device... but then again when something goes wrong usually everything goes wrong. Are you using the 7Q+ as well?

I sold mine about 2 years ago. It was corrupting the ssd quite often. seemed like every 3rd shoot I was on. I figured it to be a bug with the firmware. it was always with the slow motion, never in 23.98. Plus the editors were kind of bitching about how many clips were in each folder. Dont know if they fixed that. I know they have a program that would stitch them together but it was just more time wasted. It was a solid piece of gear though. It was dropped on concrete twice and other than a couple of scratches it was fine. CD has great customer service though. Ive called them at 5 am and got someone on the phone. If I still needed a monitor/recorder I would choose them over atomos any day of the week.

did you get corrupted files with CD SSDs or Samsung? I'm using a Samsung 850 Pro and so far all is good. I haven't tried any slowmo yet though, although the feed from the Varicam is 60p and that was fine too.

I use CDs transfer tool which put's all the files in any folder you specify then copies them. This will give you one folder without any subfolders, nice and clean. I'm using the latest 2018 firmware.

I would never go with Atomos, have used them before and they're not as solid, lack some features which are important to me and the customer service is non existent to me (they wouldn'e even reply to pre sales questions!).

I had both. Pretty sure it happened on both brands of SSDs. I'm sure it was a bug in the firmware at the time. because I had no problems until I updated the firmware. If it ever happens to you just dont panic. That software will pull the clips out. You may lose the last clip. Atomos build quality is a joke. Didnt care about the cute names for their products or the flashy UI. Anytime I have a multi cam shoot I still rent the apollo.

This is a known issue if you do not perform proper eject or shutdown procedure.

Try re-inserting the drives and firing up the Odyssey, then perform an eject. The Odyssey should have rebuilt the file structure and you'll be able to read your drives as normal.

Yes, this happened to me when I first used the Odyssey, a safe eject fixed the missing files!
