Can't play back video on dual monitor (1680x1050)

Ok, so here's my setup:

Avid Xpress Pro
Dell Precision 670
Dual Xeon 3.2Ghz
2GB Ram
nVidia Quadro 1400
Dual 20" WS LCDs (1680x1050 each)

So, when I do dual monitor, I can't play back ANY video at all. I can scrub the timeline, and the monitor will update, but when I press play (spacebar, or L) the monitor won't playback the video - although audio is fine.

If I lower the setting to 16bit color from 32bit, all video playback is fine. Even the clips.

So question is, is it cos my Quadro is simply not powerful enough to fire up dual 1680x1050 monitors at 32bit color? Or is it an Xpress Pro issue?

Also, if I disable one monitor, there's no problem playing back at 32bit color on the other monitor.

Anyone encountered this problem before?

Not sure if this would help ...

but (at least with my dual head card, an old Matrox 450), I had to have video only playing back on the monitor on the left side. (So my source/record monitors play on monitor 1, left side).

I seem to remember reading about this and it had to do with WinXP.

I have a similar problem if I have anything else running on my machine. For instance, if I have Win Media Player sitting in the backgrounbd (even if it's not doing anything) my video won't play back. Could it be a resource issue of some sorts? What else do you have running in the background?

What about lowering your resolution? Drop it down a step... but keep your 32bit colour... maybe... :)

this might help, make sure that your composer window is displayed only on the primary monitor, or monitor number one in your dual monitor set-up,
it does not work if you use the 2nd monitor

Yep sounds like its a computer issue. If it plays back in one mode but not another that is higher perhaps your video card can't keep up. Best thing to do is put in a technical issue question just like you did here at avids site

My setup works on the second monitor.

I think it's more about the card not being able to do what you want it too. **Perhaps** the monitor layout issue is because graphics cards give more resources to the number one monitor - maybe that's why people suggest putting things onto your no.1 monitor?

But I know mine works on second monitor.
