Can't Mount FS100 as USB for firmware update

Can't seem to mount the FS100 as a USB drive in order to update the firmware. Selected "USB Connect". My Macbook Pro i7 sees the USB device as the FS100 but won't mount it as a Mass storage device. Any suggestions? I'm not using the original USB cable. Do I need it?
