When playing mts files in Premiere Pro CS4, i hear about 2 seconds of audio and then nothing.

I've tried to play the mts files in the program monitor, source monitor and from the project files.

I'm certainly other have encountered this before, what is the solution?

Updated: There is about 80 MTS files from this event, this issue is only for some files. Others play fine. Then others cut out midway through.

I've never encountered this... but here are a few thoughts that may or may not help.

First, make sure you've updated to version 4.1 -- this is important.

If that doesn't fix your problems -- try transcoding to an "intermediary codec." Panasonic offers a free utility that transcodes the HMC's AVCHD files to DVCPROHD -- and DVCPROHD performs flawlessly on Premiere.

That's the best I can do. Hope that helps somehow. Good luck!

Thank you for the response.

I re-uploaded the problem files from the sd card, and the audio works fine now.

I have had the same problem with .mp4 files from a Sanyo HD1000. Sometimes re-uploading fixed it, other times it didn't and in that case just did a re-encoding to a .mov file.

I think I actually know why this happens. When you import the files does Premiere show a progress bar and "conforming..." in the corner?

This means that Premiere is essentially transcoding the audio to a temporary .cfa file in your media cache directory, and it's a little buggy. If you wait for it to finish, it should play fine. If you start scrubbing when it's halfway done, then you'll hear that first half and not the last (even when the conform finishes, annoying enough). At that point you can wait for it to finish conforming, then save and re-open your project, and you should hear all the audio.

This is based on me experimenting for only a few minutes - but see if it's consistent for you.

Every once in a while cs4 refuses to play audio for me so i just have to save and restart premiere and then it's all good until a week later and it feels like making a fuss again...
