GH2 cant get gh2 to match hpx170

Hmmm...no replies yet. Bummer.
I have the GH2 and only a DVX100 but the general principles will be the same.
1. If you have not shot yet- Then you need to find the most compatible color profiles first. This will take some experimenting, but you should be able to spot one from each that comes "the closest". Bear in mind that the ones that most match each other might not be color profiles you like.
2. If you have not shot yet- Do NOT use the 2 cameras for similar shots. Designate one that will be your close-ups, and the other for mid shots. Then try the one you chose for close-ups as your long shot camera. This helps a TON for more seamless editing between them. NOT because they match, but because the SCENES will be more different and the eye will not be able to do as much "comparing". -OR- depending on your content; one camera for Close and Mid and the other for Long shots.
3. If you have already shot and need to make them match- ouch, this can be frustrating. Any depth of field differences will be very hard to work around. As for any sharpness mis-match, blur/soften the sharper to match the softer and avoid sharpening if you can as it tends to add unpleasant artifacts that will make the matching even harder.
4. If you have already shot and need to make them match- color matching is also hard because of potentially different "baked-in" values. I had my best success here once when guided by someone who generally only worked with stills- but his methods were interesting. What we did was DE-saturate the color of both to the point where they started to appear more similar - this was about 1/3 of the way to black&white in this instance. Then we carefully brought individual color channels back and shifted their hues until we reached a point where we had enough color in each to be happy with the match.
Now, the color was not what it originally was for either, and maybe not what we hoped for, but it was interesting looking and did match up much better.

Try to stick to points 1. and 2.
It makes it all a whole lot easier.

~Cheers

Thanks for the info!

I talked to a guy on forum, he said that he has a af100 and a gh2 and i used the vibrant scene on the gh2 with -2,0,-1,-0 and I heard that this is best pic profile to match to a hpx170.
He also gave me the scene file settings from his af100 to match that of the gh2 profile , its just hard cuz like you said the DOF comes into play and its hard to make judgement.

i have the same set up that also includes hvx 205a. i use the color correction 3 colors mode of fcp7.Thats the only way......

I have the GH2 and the HMC150. Yep.. it's gonna be hard to get it to match natively in the camera, but you can do it with post and dilligent lighting to each of their strenghts. I'd also say to make sure your white balance is as spot on with both of them and you'll be fine. I've shot with the AF100, 150 and GH2 all together and matched that pretty well... even when I shot some EX1. There's going to be some differences but that's just a nice aspect to this stuff...

One area where the GH2 does somethwhat fail is the roll off on highlights so be carefull with that. NOt very forgiving in those areas but it will give you solid blacks... Also the mids and the merky areas are sometimes troublesome...
