Can't Get Complete Battery Charge

For some reason I cannot get a full charge on the battery supplied with my new HVX-200. It starts up, charges a bit (green light) then it goes out.

Should the switch on the surface of the battery be in "black" or "red" when it is charging, and when it is being used? I can't find any docs on this...

Thanks in advance,

It sounds like you have a defective Battery, or charger. Most likely the battery though.
Was it a new battery that came with your "New HVX" ?
I would contact the dealer and get a replacement.

How did you determine it is not charging fully? Does the in camera "fuel guage" not go to full? Might just be an incorrect "guage".

Will the battery power the camera, using the viewfinder rather than the LCD,
for 3 hours or so? If so, chances are the battery is fine.

It lasts about 10 minutes.

But what about the switch on the bottom of the battery. Should it be on "null" or "red."

It is not an electrical switch, it just helps you to remember if you charged the battery recently. You are not trying to power the camera in the same time, right?

Please note that the warranty on accesories is way different than the warranty fo rthe camera itself. I think it's only 7-days. Otherwise you would need to purchase a new one. I'll drop you a PM with some options for you.

WOW 7 days...?

Next thing you know it it will be 7 steps or 7 seconds, whichever comes first

I'm just a bit confused...

Does the red light remain on when the green light goes out? If the green light goes out and the red light remains on - the the battery is charged and ready for use. A little counter intuitive, and the subject of lots of conversations in the camera room with AC's and DP's who think that the battery is faulty or still charging when the light is red.

Most (myself included) would expect the green light to come on when the battery is fully charged and ready for use. not the other way around.

I can understand the confusion. :)
I just never gave it enough thought to get confused.
Yes, both lights are on when it's charging. Only the red is on when it's done.

I guess you can think of it as when the green light is on, the charging process is working.

I was confused about his situation... not the about how the charger works. I should have added the sarcasm tone to my typing.

I had a similar problem w/ a battery. You may try finding a way to drain the battery completely. It seems like the HVX200 doesn't do this. I connected my problem battery to my Nebtek monitor and left it on for a while. When I recharged again, it seemed have charged all the way.
