Can't find a list of O7Q+ DNxHD/DNxHR recording formats anywhere

I'm trying to decide between the Shogun and O7Q+ and I can't find a list anywhere of which DNxHD and DNxHR flavours the O7Q+ can record to... I've seen people say it can, but all the official documentation only talks about Prores. Can anyone point me somewhere useful? Thanks.

The O7Q+ does not currently record to any DNx codecs. They have said that it is coming, but we do not have a timeline yet for that.

Good to know, thanks! I edit on a PC, so depending on how soon that changes I may have to go with Shogun.

I'd go 7Q. DNx is the only advantage the Shogun has. The Odyssey's recent upgrade for skin tones alone is worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks for the info. I would like to, but I don't own a Mac and don't feel like shelling out extra $$$ for questionable software to convert it on my PC. The other thing is that a speedy workflow is very important to me, and I don't want to sit around waiting for Prores conversion. Is there any estimate on when CD will bring DNxHD to their products?

Prores conversion? It records prores in 3 different flavors at all resolutions. In 2015 Prores plays and edit with super ease on a PC. I'm not sure what you have to convert with regard to the 7q. You get RAW & Prores.

I will say in favor of the ATOMOS you can use off the shelf SSD's. For me that is the BIGGEST update coming to the Odyssey family, the ability to use Samsung SSD's. If I was in the market that might sway me. You have a tough choice for your needs.

He's likely cutting in Media Composer, as I am, and DNxHR media would ingest much faster as it would be more akin to copying the media, than transcoding it. This was the one advantage I gave to the Shogun when I was deciding, but the 7Q+ had so many other other pluses that I let this one go. Still, would be great to have to speed up prepping for post.

You're right, I'm using AVID. Do you mind if I ask what your Prores to AVID workflow looks like on the PC?

You guys don't know how good it is to see other shooters coming online that edit on Avid. It seems I've been pretty alone for the last 5 years. At any rate, I've been shooting Prores and cutting on a PC just as long. Prores injests just like DNxYY on Avid and the PC. No special tricks or different workflows. You can't export SAS, but, otherwise you'll never notice a diff.

I've been cutting in Media Composer for close to ten years. My wife too. And all the places we freelance that used to be FCP7 have transitioned to MC7 or MC8. We keep dabbling with other NLEs just see what's out there but always come back to Avid.

And you're right. The "Fast Import" for ProRes media in Media Composer is an option for me and goes much faster since it's just re-wrapping the media as MXF files (right?). I'm not on a PC so I don't know what, if any, restrictions are faced for using ProRes. But it sounds like there aren't any.

Kaidumo, have you tried importing ProRes files by selecting the same codec as your camera originals when you import?

Sorry guys you'd think i'd be more sensitive to other editing platforms remembering the PITA pro res was for Adobe on PC. Didn't know it was so inconvenient on media composer.

Just got word back from support at Convergent Design and DNxHR is on the agenda for release this summer.
I heard the same! Hopefully the demand puts a rush on that. I haven't tried dealing with Prores on my PC now that I'm on MC8 as I long ago gave up with that (back on MC 5.5). Now that I know better I'll try to find some Prores footage online and play around with it to see just what I can do. Thanks!

Must be an Avid thing.
I'm still running old Premiere CS6 on Windows 7 and it works with ProRes just fine - like automatic. It doesn't even twitch. It just does it.

DNxHD coming soon. It's fixed bit rate as opposed to ProRes' variable, so we need to alter our data management a little differently. But the work is almost done.
