can't figure out 16:9

Hi there,

this must be a simple process as 16:9 is such a common format but i really can't figure out how to get from avid to DVD.

Footage shot in 16:9 on a PD 150 using a progressive scan lens.

Export from Avid DV as QT ref using 16:9 aspect ratio, the QT file plays in proper aspect.

I'm using Sorenson squeeze to compress into a PAL MPEG2 file, but this results in the footage back to the 4:3 squeezed look.

To build the DVD I'm using either DVDit! or DVD Architect, but can't figure out in either of these programs how to get the file to play in 16:9 ratio. In Sorenson squeeze there is no mention of squeezing for that specific ratio.

Sorry about the basic question.

Appreciate any help!

thanks

Selecting 16:9 on the QT export only sets the proper aspect ratio for MoviePlayer and does nothing for the MPEG2 encoder. The 16:9 anamorphic fl ag needs to be set within the MPEG2 encoder you are using. It will not get this from the QT reference. Do any of those applications allow for control over the MPEG enoding? That could very well be the issue. Some of the lower cost DVD authoring applications do not support 16:9.

I use Sorenson Squeeze to first prepare the MPEG2 assets, then bring those into the authoring application.
