What about the nikon 85mm 1.4 ai-s? What matters to me is barrel distortion which defeats the purpose of the flat cine look, though at times it's a great distinct alternative. The samyang is aspherical so it has more barrel distortion than the nikon. As an amateur short filmmaker I'm also concerned about the overall look and rendition from the lens. I've read by pro cinematographers that canon lenses do not hold up on the big screen. I guess i need to read up on the canon 85 1.4. My nikon lenses are great. My 105mm 2.8 ai-s is my best lens and if the nikon 85mm 1.4 ai-s is anything like it and has less barrel distortion that the samyang - i'd go for the nikon. But the samyang cost $300 less. Is it worth saving the money for unwanted barrel distortion. I'd rather pay more money than have more barrel distortionCan anyone comment on the barrel distortion of the samyang 85mm 1.40?
