Canon's Upcoming RF cinema camera rumored specs

I have always felt all Japanese cameras produce beautiful high-resolution video (besides the Venice).

But nothing that evokes any cinematic emotion out of me like ARRI - RED - Blackmagic easily does. Sure, it happens here and there, but not a lot. And every professional knows that you can make every camera look bad, but I am referring to the best-of-the-best. Or at least worthy work.

And your idea of neutral may be much cooler than my neutral which may be warmer. So if that was the case then I think it's best to include the word warmer in my description if I am trying to provide an accurate visualization of my brain's processing.

The inclusion of both may sound contradictory to you, but if I don't then I would just be agreeing to some generalization of neutral that you're creating. Because in reality, really what's neutral when colors are visually perceived?

Do you not like the images from the Venice or are you saying that the images from it are not just high resolution video but more cinematic/filmic?

I guess you never heard of a little Sony camera called the F35, which makes fantastic images that give Alexa a run for its money. Many times it even beats the Alexa. This from an Alexa owner. 100% more cinematic than anything Red or Blackmagic too.

lol. One day I'm going to count up how many posts you have about the F35.

Its images are nice, really beautiful...but meant something more post Industrial Revolution.

LOL. I guess it comes from remorse for not having one and wanting one sooooo bad! But I can't make the business case as I already have an Alexa and they are basically the same type of camera. The Alexa gets more work for sure.

But if that was the case you should have said "new Sonys" then. ;)

Relax, dude. This is a discussion about modern and brand new cinema cameras. I don't think anyone is trying to take anything away from the F35.

EDIT: That's what I get for not refreshing my browser. Glad to see that you guys hugged it out.

Getting antsy for this camera announcement. I had a doc-style shoot in a private jet last week for a local news channel. I brought along my C200 with a Vinten head and Miller sticks and kept thinking how much easier it would have been with something smaller, like this mysterious new C70 or even an R5 if it wouldn't overheat.

It's much easier. The C70 is an interesting one. Surprised more photos aren't leaked yet but maybe today (later in the day).

My personal sticking points with the C70 rumors are that - if I want it primarily as a gimbal camera, then mirrorless cameras may still have a form factor advantage. And an IBiS advantage.

The C70 autofocus may not be as good as the R5 (time will tell), and, unlike the R5, you won't be able to switch between FF and S35 with a menu selection. You can switch between a speedbooster and a regular adapter, but that is much slower.

Of course, the A7SIII can't shoot S35 4K at all, so the C70 still has an advantage there.

But if the C70 is really $6300 and then nearly $7k with a speedbooster and an adapter....well, my used FS7 and new A7SIII cost $6400 combined, and the FS7 is still in demand.

I'm in the same boat as you, Abe. I just picked up a used FS7 (39hrs so basically new) from Adorama for $4000 and less than a year ago an A7III. If the C70 comes in at around $4000 I would consider it, but at $6300 it's a pass. Plus I don't think I can go back to a non-shoulder mount camera again...

The EOS C70 boasts a number of ‘firsts’ for the Cinema EOS System range. In addition to supporting Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel AF System, it is also the first Cinema EOS System camera to feature the revolutionary EOS iTR AF X (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) system seen in the newly-launched EOS R5. The system uses a face and head detection algorithm that works in conjunction with Face Detection AF to greatly improve the reliability of focusing on and tracking the subject.

Great news!

On paper, it’s pretty much my dream camera. Just curious how they are going to screw it up. Probably the price point. Or maybe there is a little needle hidden in the handgrip that’s sticks you and draws blood every time you want to turn it on. Time will tell.

As much as I hate to say it, this company really has everyone - which is why they do what they do, and charge what they charge.

I know many people are very happy with Sony and Panasonic cameras, but I just feel like there are no choices out there besides Canon cameras if you want all of the nice features, colors and AF (albeit mostly a video look).

The a7SIII is great but possibly has some of the most underwhelming images I've ever seen in such an anticipated camera.

And Panasonic and Fujifilm just can't get their AF right (but both have beautiful colors).

And the real cinema options don't try (besides Komodo which most likely will need 2-3 years to really dial it in).

And there are no decent AF cinema cameras for around $6000 from Sony or Panasonic.
