Canon XL-1 for sale

$2,200 for whole package!

Manufactured in January of 2000, purchased in February. Camera has been well taken care of in the time that I’ve had it. Other than some scuffs where a microphone clamp was attached, and a tiny scratch on the bottom side of the lens the overall condition of the camera is good. You will get the original operators manual, not a copy, as it came with the camera. It was primarily used to shoot various sporting events as well as other general use video.

The camera is currently at the west coast Canon Service Center having the drum assembly replaced so you will have 0 hours on the new heads. They are also repacing the rubber eye cup on the viewfinder as after 5 years of use it had gotten worn out. it will be shipped and back in Portland between March 3rd and 6th. This is a great deal on an entry level camera setup for someone who wants to get into the “Prosumer” level of DV video.

Here is what you will get:
  • Canon XL-1
  • Remote Control
  • Battery Charger/AC Adapter
  • Camera power cable
  • 14x Auto Focus Lens
  • Shoulder Brace
  • Carrying Strap
  • Stereo Microphone
  • RCA Video/Audio Cable & S-Video Cable
  • Original Owners Manual
  • 2 BP-930 Batteries (3000 mAh) Used, but not burned out.
  • Cleaning Tape

Along with the camera I am including several accessories that make this a very versatile shooting package. I’ve upgraded the standard shoulder brace to the MA-100 that makes the camera more comfortable to hold on the shoulder. It also adds 2 XLR connectors to connect professional audio equipment to the camera. There is also a mounting plate for a wireless microphone. The MA-100 as been modified slightly as the original design had a plastic tab that held it onto the camera. This broke once and was repaired and replaced with a heavy duty aluminum one. The modification renders this one better than the factory original.

Also included is a KATA rain cover. This cover was purchased about 6 months ago and has only been out in the rain once. It offers great protection for shooting in wet, snowy or dusty conditions. It’s very easy to put on and take off and offers easy access to all the controls, tape transport and lens. A clear shield on the side gives you a view of the controls and indicators.

Finally to carry everything in is a Portabrace CTC-3 soft shell carrying case. This case was designed for the XL-1 and is large enough to hold the camera with the MA-100 attached. If you travel it conforms to the standards of the airlines for carry-on luggage. It offers reinforced protection for the viewfinder and has room for extra tapes, batteries, microphones or what ever else you want to keep handy while you’re shooting. The style makes it easy to open, grab, and shoot. The case construction and material makes it resistant to snags, cuts and tears and can be easily cleaned with just a vacuum cleaner.

Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer. I prefer payment either by cashier check, money order, or PayPal. Due to the high price of the camera I would recommend insuring its delivery. I ship using the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEX. If you're in the Portland, Oregon area feel free to pick up or I'll hand deliver it to you.

I've posted some photos online here:

Remember, there aren't any photos yet of the camera body until it comes back from the service center.

Just spoke to the folks at the service center. Work has been completed, I'll have the camera back in Portland on Monday.

The work done included:

  • Replaced Drum Unit including heads
  • Replaced Takeup and Supply Reels
  • Clean and Adjusted tape path
  • Checked for proper torque
  • Tested all functions and specs to factory specs.

This renders the camera transport as basically new.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.
