Canon XA30 & XA35 (with SDI out) wide DR and highlight priority mode

That is weird, a consumer handycam with SDI output. Very nice cams. Good for event people or b-cameras but no 4k seems like marketing suicide these days.

These seem like should sell for about half of what they hope to get for them. Ahh Canon, clueless about the market as ever.

I can see doc people and reality shows using these (where they record themselves). X30 is $2k. Canon is not that far behind, maybe 2013...

Canon had and still has the XA20 and XA25. These cameras are virtually the same with the new stabilisation and 600% DR. I was looking at giving the previous XA20E (meant for PAL 25p) to my associate. However, cost is still high. XC10 is 4K at 2500 usd. So because of better ergonomics, and zoom range Canon charges more for the XA30, XA35.

You won't get these zoom range in any other camera. Atleast I don't know. Give me 4k in the XA30/35 and I am ready to pay more.

These are proper camcorders which can be used by the freelancers as well as TV shooters. A lot of news gathering happens in 1080. However, lack of 4K means I won't personally buy it.

I would buy the XA30 for my Youtube stuff if it was around 1000 dollars. I need a cheap camcorder with XLR inputs and decent image.

Is Canon way off, or are we just not the people who'd be interested in these cameras at these prices?

JVC & Sony both have done 4K / 4K ready at $2k (though only a 12x lens).

How hard is it to have a headphone jack on any camera with a mic input? Seriously, why is that so much to ask for?

Their also this for $1,700. It has the same kind of external controls as the AC90. Too bad their isn't a 4K version yet.

Is that a servo zoom? $600.00 for a nice 4K camera ain't bad.
It even has the remote zoom (not sure about the rocker .. there doesn't seem to be one). It also has a variable geometry option, where one can use the crop mode for a greater reach. On the one hand, it's a smartphone sensor with a long zoom. On the other, most people will be satisfied with it being their primary/sole camera while the pros could use it as a B-cam. And it's 4K. For $600.
