Canon user thread - post your pictures here

heh .. another 6 inches today. I work out in whatever-the-weather-is environment and wasn't expecting that snow today. At least it is cold enough to stay dry. Dry is good when you're out there all day. Monday is supposed to get up to 31 which means some wet. ick. wet=colder. Way cold after Monday though .. dry again. :) I'll have to set up a camera and get some out-there shots. I work on a gas processing plant. It's down right now so lots-o-hours til it's up again. I'll have to see if I can get a few shots.

Ever been to Maumee Bay State Park?

No, but I get around to quite a few parks in MI so it could happen. I've been told however I need to go to Hocking Hills in the fall and ride the zipline, so that might be my first reason to run into Ohio.

First day with the new 550D. Was one day after christmas!

As you can see, ISO was to high and lots of grain. After looking at it, i might think i overedited it...

The Blue Look by Justin Aguirre, on Flickr

I got a little bored Sunday night so I decided to break out my strobes for an impromptu self portrait.

Strobist Info:
One strobe high camera right at 1/2 power through a snoot.
One bare strobe camera left at 1/4 power for fill and to gently light the background.

Need some opinions since I want to use one of these as a hero image on my homepage. Which of these three is the best?

The first one... good exposure range, focal point, interesting to look at. I'd go with this. #2 seems a bit hot, and #3 is OK but nowhere near as interesting as your first image. I'm not sure what you mean by 'hero image' on your homepage, but the services you are trying to sell might push me to go with a certain image style over another. (typical portrait vs. candid, etc)

I don't know how much news of the flooding that's hit the mid-south has made it to the national level but I grabbed some aerial shots on my flight in from L.A.
It's pretty severe. You can see the Tunica, MS Casino lots are just beds of mud and water. In Memphis the river crest is set to hit a record level of 48 feet. The Army Corps of Engineers blasted a two mile hole in the levees up stream in Missouri to reduce the rising tide but it's still increasing:

Canon 400 F2.8L

This is my "company owner" portrait. I used a super telephoto lens in order to achieve the really bold and blown up backdrop I was after. The narrow FOV and large aperture on such a long lens offers something you can't achieve with any other type of lens. Of course it's not a practical lens for most portriat work because of the working distance as well as the weight.
