Canon user thread - post your pictures here

Sunday was an absolute amazing day here in upstate NY. My girlfriend and I had a picnic on the grounds of the VANDERBILT mansion where they have rolling fields, a view of the Hudson River and a pretty expansive floral garden. Nothing much done with these...I dont profess to be a PHOTOSHOP guru...but I posted these pics to show how well the XT handles color...

These are all handheld so they are a bit on the soft side...

I think I am going to buy an XT!!!

Do it! The only reason I hesitated was because of the small grip. It didn't take long at all to get used to it and now I really like the feel of it.

Don't forget to post pictures when you get it!

New photo...

New photo...

I recently purchased a new lens (50mm 1.8) and thought I'd post a photo or two. It's got to be the best $80 I've spent in a long time (actually $30... Thanks Jeremy!) I can't seem to put the camera down now. :)

This is my daughter in front of the high school that both of her parents and 2 of her grandparents attended (I have other shots that show more of the school, but this was my favorite). As mentioned earlier in the thread... her eyes are almost black, so no amount of light would make them brighter. Very striking, I think (but I'm her dad, so you'd expect me to say that)!

When I first got the lens, I immediately set it to f1.8 just to get a feel for it... and whoa, what a shallow depth of field. And I'm amazed at how fast the shutter speeds are in low light. I knew it'd be faster, but wow!

The DOF is really too shallow in this picture and I wish the barrel was closer to the top left corner and that the hammer wasn't cropped off... I can nit-pick it to death, but for some reason, I still like it. So, here it is:

Any other Rebel users, please feel free to add your photos!

And as also, comments (good and bad) are always welcome... I'm here to learn!

Really nice photos, Tom... especially the first one.

On edit: I just realized you posted earlier in this thread saying you think you'll get an XT. Congrats on getting one and thanks for contributing to the thread!

Yeah Tom, really beautiful colors you got there. How much from camera how much from CC? (Trying to understand the nuances of CC here)

You know, if memory serves, I probably cranked up the saturation in all three of these photos by about 10-20%. On the surfing one I may have adjusted the shadows.

My photoshop routine usually consists of... shoot RAW, then open in photoshop RAW editor...

brightness/contrast
color temperature
exposure
highlights/shadows

at this point i will open the raw into photoshop proper, then...

saturation
sharpness
crop
save

Something like that. Exposure, constrast and saturation are the big ones for me.

Wow guys. I'm so blown away by your images. I'm saving up for an XT since I have a Ellon 2 and want to be able to use the same lenses. Right now I've been shooting digital with a friends D70s. I love it and am always temted to get myself the D70s, but then I saw the B&W pictures of the little kid. "WOW!" I'm so totally going to get an XT! Everyone elses images are amazing as well. Wish I had one so I could contribute some pictures as well.

Thank you!

And definitely post some pictures here when you get yours!

Well, bringing the thread back from the dead, but I was pretty happy to get this shot. 350d at the wide end of the Canon 10-22 EF-S.
