Canon Rebel T3i and T3 Announced

The digital zoom seems to Be a great adition. Since it's only using a tiny portion of the 18mp chip, this feature can allow a nice boost of telephoto for certain lenses. Fantastic for sports and wildlife shooting! I hope to see this in the next 5D. In fact, that feature is enough to warrant a mark III upgrade, for me!

Looks like Manual Audio control was added, and the digital zoom sounds like it might compete with the center crop in the GH2 hopefully.

I wana see the digial zoom, sounds like they are using the wrong word for it, at least I hope.
Digial zoom is crap and =/= Crop

edit...
The gizmodo sample video of the digital zoom looks crappy, I can't tell if its just a cheap blown up version or not. Anyone have any input?

Nice camera but not much upgrades to warrent to buy one, for the person that wants to buy something new to think which one to buy the 550 60 or 600 so similar :) , the Audio levels adjustment is nice, and swivel screen . The time recording is probly the same limit, the Hdmi out put the same limit like the 550d. For now I will live with the 550d and hope Canon do some changes as most of us want or need for applications.

If anyone is counting this is the 7th HDSLR canon has released with essentially the same first-generation video features. When's their second-generation going to get here?

As an aside, anyone know if this is doing HD HDMI out while recording?

Probably with the next 5D later this year. At least I very much hope so.
I think it makes sense that the major changes come to the pro line first. For example, they would have lost some money to videographers if the T2i had come out before the 7D or if the 7D had come out before the 5D. I now think the next 5D might get light sensitivity near the 1DmkIV. What Canon does is slowly add some of the features all the way down to the consumer cameras. The next 5D should be a great camera to start again and innovate just like the 5D mk II. Or maybe not.

To be honest, I don't think Canon has the ability to do anything about the Aliasing, moire issues their cameras have. I think this is why they come out with a new cam every six monthes or so, with little feature upgrades. I think the the t2i with ML is still waaaayyy better.

The crop at full resolution will not have aliasing or moire. No line skipping or pixel binning. But then again, who cares except bird watchers?

Well, Panasonic was able to figure it out with the GH2 so I don't see any reason why Canon will not resolve this issue. Plus as someone as already stated, we will probably see this improvement first on the next generational of the 5dII. All these other cameras are bacially working off the same technology.

That is why I have not touched my T2i since receiving the GH2. The new Canons are just some re-packaging of the same sensor which means moire & aliasing.
You can see moire & aliasing in their official video. Canon should have used a GH2 to shoot their "officiall" video....LOL

there still moire in gh2 except its not a big "F*ck you!" of color aliasing

Still uses DIGIC 4 so I guess DIGIC 5 is held back for the new 5D -- looking forward to seeing what effect that will have on the video quality. Think I'll stay with my 550D for now, though I'd like the articulated screen.
