R6 is the dark horse...$2500-ish with most of the R5's features. Supposedly shipping before R5 too.

It lacks 4k120p. And raw. And hype. The R5 might generate excitement for features the clients don't even use. But yes, very very interesting.

If it has better RS than the R5 (likely), then that's a big big win

Although CR think it's reliable, most of it is indeed unconfirmed (although they feel strongly about the 4K/60p being true).

Canon are meticulous masters on another level than anyone else, so they will get us one way or another (besides rolling shutter).

Basic looking C-Log is already one way (and maybe none for R6).

I like the "quality not as good as R5" claim.

"Listen what do you want for $2,500? CFexpress slots? Hah, we were thinking Zip Drive originally. Be happy you got SD's. The mounting may not be quite as sturdy either. Here's an advice, so your lens doesn't fall off - put some chewed up gum in the crack. That should fix it. The EVF? I wouldn't rely on it either. It's not OLED. It's not QLED. It's a photo of Scarlett Johansson from twenty years ago. Take a peek, you won't be disappointed. I mean, the camera is dirt cheap. R5 we made in our Japanese plant. R6 came from our leftovers in Wuhan. But not to worry, it doesn't have any cooties. But, just in case, we're giving away a free hand sanitizer and an N95 mask. The mask is inside the box where the battery was supposed to be. Hey, you can always buy yourself another battery but you won't another set of lungs.

And, wait till you see the new R7. It's a rebadged Kodak CCD from the 1990's. Someone found it in an abandoned warehouse in downtown LA. Waste not, want not.

And, hey, if none of the above actually functions, I can recommend the latest iPhone. It's quite good. I hear."

July 9th is not that far off so we will see how close the rumored specs were. As in the past the rumors were not that far off.

This rumor isn't new either. They've been talking about it for a while. I'm certain that the R6 will appear although we don't know the specs yet for sure. The idea is that it's the R version of the 6D, just like the R5 is the R version of the 5D. Hence the lower resolution and processing power. And that should give you a sense of the relative build quality. And maybe there will eventually be an R1.

They are being more cautious these days because they (he) pretty much had to issue an apology after the 5D Mark IV debacle a few years back which upset a lot of people (including myself, lol). Posted a bunch of stuff as fact and it was one big hoax.

Craig has stressed before he knows more about photography than the video industry.

But for sure more correct than not. Very trustworthy most of the time.

Honestly though I think if I would get an R6 instead of an R5, I would just get an A7SIII. No RAW video there either but 4k120p (supposedly) + it's a super famous camera line. The A7SII was the most-rented piece of gear on Kitsplit in 2019! People still request it even though way better stuff is now available. It will probably be not that much more expensive than the R6.

Supposedly no-crop. But nobody knows anything for sure yet, including if they'll actually release an A7SIII. All just rumors

The a7SIII has been the most elusive camera I've ever seen. Any and all rumors have been way off, and no one knows or shares anything besides camera registrations open to the public.

For me, it's very difficult to not believe Sony simply made a deal to hold off on it for 5 years and let the industry balance itself out a bit for the overall camera culture.

(I just don't believe any of the heating concerns or anything else.)

Sony made out like bandits on the Panasonic, Olympus, Nikon and Fuji sensors. Something had to be given up in return. In a competitive industry, they'd be on A7SV by now.

My take is that the A7Sii is still selling and still holding its spot as the Sony mirrorless "video" model. More money to be made by holding off. Plus they got to see the S1H and R6 before making their next move

lol, no...a7III sales destroyed a7SII sales years ago. The camera is still popular in some places (like the rental site you've mentioned a few times) because people don't know any better (and that's a great thing).

Many don't get involved in the specs game. They only have heard the "a7S" is good (without realizing most mean the 2nd model), and so it gets rented.

But in reality, everything about it is outdated; worse IQ, worse color, slightly inferior performance with low-noise, no AF, and questionable HFR...versus several other of Sony's modern mirrorless cameras from 2017+.

Plus an outrageous native ISO of 1600 that I forget about...on purpose.

||||| Nope, I don't remember a7S' 3200. :cheesy: |||||
