I have an epson photo 2200 and love the image quality - great prints. What I don't like about epson is that their drivers for mac ALWAYS suck and that if you're out of any ink cartridge - no matter the color - you can't print. So, my printer has 7 cartridges and if I'm out of 1 (light magenta let's say), I can't print a black and white word document. That drives me crazy when it's the middle of the night and I have to wait until the morning to go out and buy a cartridge I don't technically need.
Again, though, the prints are awesome. I've also heard people rave about Canon't though. If print quality is equal, I'd give the Canon a try for the reasons above - especially if you're a mac user.
I have the R220. I have only printed 1 photo on printable DVD and it looked awesome. I do wish that printable DVDs/CDs had glossier surfaces because I'm not a fan of the matte finish...but that is entirely a limitation of the media. The printer did a great job. I have done several logo and graphic jobs that looked fantastic. As good as youd want. And for the price of the printer, cant be beat.
I've got the R200 (But any of the series should be fine).
One thing to look at is outboard ink tanks, rather than the little individual ones, if you're gonna be printing a lot. They run about $100 or so. Lots of ink, easy to refill, etc.
Do a Google for Continuous Ink Epson (or Canon or whatever you decide). Lots of hits.
I have the 320, people are very impressed by one off printed DVD's. sometimes I walk around bars "hey baby I just made this 20 minutes ago.." I'm a loser. don't tell my girlfriend..
We have the Canon Pixma iP4000R and I love it!
It does paper form a tray or sheet feed (selectable on printer or software over ride), prints directly onto CDs/DVDs, has seperate ink tanks, etc..
What I really like about it is that it's a wireless network printer so I can just print from anywhere in the house - from any of our computers.
It's got a "night mode" that alows me to slow it down to run quieter automatically at night. It sleeps after 10 misn of inactivity and wakes up automatically when called upon to print. Just lots of things that actually make printing convenient (like technology should be), not a hassel.
I've yet to have a jam or any notable problem with it in the year we've had it now. Overall i'm really happy with it - mcuh better then teh HP, Lexmark and Epson printer's we've had in the past.
