Canon ME200S-SH Multi-Purpose Camera

This is cool, except for the price. $5k for a 1080 box camera is too much in today's market.

I think we should just be glad Canon is releasing 1080p and not 720P. I'm sure they probably considered that at some point.

Actually, I can see them releasing 1080p using 720p sensor utilizing "pixel shift" technology. And, HDMI 4-bit output BUT you can get 8 bit version for $3000 more. SDI limited to 0.75-G speed.

This is a special camera for special applications (super low light for example), not a typical camcorder so I don't think that where you would use this, there would be any need for 4K.

Good point

There's something about this thing that I'm really liking!

I could imagine it would be great on gimbals and steadicam, where it's compact size/light weight would be very helpful.

But the lack of quick control options seems like it could be a pain.

I see they are doing the same 4k to 1080p downscaling as on the C100, so the image should look quite good.

maybe just the ticket for cramped, minimally lit "reality" shows..or pricey security cam with that canon mojo ;)
