Canon M5 HD video only mirrorless camera announcement

Many of us can just copy and paste our replies from one of Canon's other Deja Vu announcements in the past.

If they had come out with a way to use the existing EF lenses everybody already owns then maybe.

You mean like this?

That's been available since the first generation EOS-M. It's a solid fit and it talks to the lenses without any problem. Like robfilms, I still have my original M (with the lens adapter), and it's made a solid B-cam. It's also been great for tucking into tight places for specialty shots. Add a pistol grip and a Kinotehnik LCDVF and it's a pretty solid, little travelogue cam. The EF-M 22mm f/2.0 is an incredibly sharp lens, too. It's the only M lens I own, since I use all my other Canon glass with the adapter.

Also, the M5 does have a mic input. No sign of a headphone jack, but the M series has had external mic in since the beginning.

It seems to me that Canon are putting most of their video development efforts into their C series since the DSLR video market got so saturated, so it doesn't really surprise me that their DSLR/mirrorless game isn't as advanced as some of the others. I still prefer the colors from Canon, and I can shoot past aliasing and moire most of the time.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had mistakenly read on DPReview that the Canon adapter did not work well with a lot of L lenses and was considered a non-starter. I should not comment without having used the system first!

The Canon EOS M lens adapter is solid. It would be nice if somebody got around to building a speed doubler into the lens adapter. There have been rumors of one coming from either Canon or Metabones. The EOS M lenses are also great and have fantastic IS. If the built in digital image stabilization works as well as it does in the XC10, the M5 may be a viable low profile b cam for those of us who shoot Canon. I already have three of the EOSM's that I i often use for timelapse or for multiangle car mounts. If the M5 has decent 1080p video, I'll be getting one. I know it will take great pictures.

Dpreview: Opinion: The EOS M5 is Canon's best ever mirrorless camera, and a big disappointment

Lately Canon sounds to me -as a video shooter and not a photographer- like Nokia bringing out a new tinyphone in 2016.

Nokia: Hey, look at our new tinyphone, you should get one!
Me: I need something better. I want to use whatsapp, twitter, facebook. Buy tickets online. Check my email.
Nokia: But it's better than out last tinyphone. The battery lasts two weeks.
Me: I read documents on my phone, and I also write some stuff.
Nokia: Well, we could also sell you a laptop. Lots of professionals use their laptops to read documents and write stuff.
Me: Or I could just buy another phone, by another maker.
Nokia: Well, it sounds like you really would enjoy one of these laptop things.
Me: ...

Not trying to be pessimistic here....but honestly, if you told me that this footage was taken with the 5D Mark II back in 2008...I would completely believe you. Its okay. But if you look at the advancements purely on a general aesthetic...I can't see that this reflects 8 years of advancements... ...The general anesthetic of this example feels 8 years ago to me.

".The general anesthetic of this example feels 8 years ago to me"

Best typeO for describing Canon's Policy towards mirrorless cameras
