Canon Flat/Technicolor/etc Presets.. Af100 question..

Been reading and watching numerous clips and topics, and saw this on the GH(x) forums here on DVX and then I saw a few videos on vimeo and I was intrigued by the flat, very gradeable looks the camera and presets were capable of producing. I have never owned a DSLR but it seems Canon is listening to what their shooters want and giving them very flat and post-friendly looks.

Was hoping that this kind of thing would be possible for the AF100. Now I already shoot with Cine-D and and setting to maximize range. MAYBE it isn't as much about range, but more about highlight handling and color rendition.. But I really like these looks... but would never want to trade in the great AF100 features just for the look, but it would be a great plus if Panasonic would deliver something like this.

Like I said I have never used DSLRs so I could just be mistaken...
Hello!

I've been looking at the Technicolor Cinestyle preset for the 5D Mark II. Not really understanding how these are made. Can someone replicate the curves for our GH cameras? Or is it more complicated?

Max

Other than lowering the saturation and contrast we don't have the ability (like in the Canons) to apply a soft curve for soft highlight clipping. That's the one and only thing I miss about my Canon 7D.

I am wondering if this is something Panasonic could give us in a firmware update. I'm sure this has been talked about before. But I was watching some vimeos of these flat canon looks and they seem really nice.

Just as a note, I tend to shoot for post/ and for a grade. Mostly narrative work.. so I like the idea of shooting flat and having less highlight :) issues. Just trying to maximize this great little camera. It could just be more control over the curves, but having it defined for us in a way like Canon is doing is interesting.

Any comments, thoughts, suggestions welcome.

Just to add:

found this link very imformative as to what is going on inside of the camera. Especially the info about log color space and digging deeper in the gamma curves.
