GH2 Canon FD vs. Nikon Nikkor

So I currently own a nikon AF 50mm F1.8, and I've been thinking about getting a AF 24mm F2.8 lens (which I could get for about $380 new) because I'm already a bit used to Nikon lenses (plus I shoot professionally with a Nikon D300, so the autofocus would be useful).

That being said, I could get about 3-5 lenses in Canon FD for the price of the 24mm nikon.

What I'm wondering here is some user experience of Canon FD vs. Nikon lenses in terms of sharpness and their overall look for video.

Which do you guys prefer and why? Should I just buy a bunch of FDs and save cash, or will I gain in quality going with Nikon?

Any feedback would be great, thanks guys!

I think there are certain lenses that work better on each format. I have always been a bit of a canon fanboy so when I got my GH1 I bought a few FD lenses. However, a friend of mine gave me his Nikkor 50 1.4 and his 17mm 3.5, and the quality of the nikkor lenses is much much better than my canon glass. That being said, for the price difference you can buy almost an entire set of FD primes for about $200. So price is definitely something you should consider. Also, Nikkor F mount lenses also work on your D300 so that is a definite plus.

Personally, I find the my Nikkors to be less contrasty and saturated than FDs. But they flare more (something I actually like) and have a slight yellow tint (don't like).

Fd lenses can't be used on new canon camera's ( at least not in a satisfactory manner) can you use them on the panasonic gh1/2 without a adapter with a glass element???? Would be great you have some killer fd lenses ( those are not cheap )

You can use them on both the gh1 and gh2 with a nonglass element adapter.

I just bought my first GH2 lens the FD 50mm f1.8. It hasn't arrived yet but I liked everything I read about them, plus they're not that expensive.

I've found the Canon FD lenses to be much less contrasty than the Nikon stuff. I think the more vintage glass really has such a sweet look and YEP, you can't beat the price. I just wish I could find a fast wide angle that doesn't cost a grand even though it's a 20 year old lens.
