Canon FD lens on GH1

I just tried a recently purchased Canon FD 50mm 1.8 lens for my GH1 with the necessary adapter. I got the lens and adapter on eBay and both are in good working order. I connected them to the GH1 and when I adjusted the manual aperture control on the FD lens, I don't see any difference in the quality of the image (more light/less light) and the aperture blades seem to remain fully open. Am I doing something wrong?

I recall hearing that some FD to m4/3 adapters have an aperture control on them but this adapter doesn't appear to have one. When I connect the lens to the adapter, I notice that the aperture blades open fully. The adapter has like a small screw that, when attaching to the lens, pushes back the small metal connection on the back of the lens. Is this normal or is there something I need to adjust on the adapter in order to make the manual aperture control work?

You may align the lens lever in the wrong side relative to the protuded pin on the adaptor.

Try using your finger , through the rear end of the adaptor, pushing the aperture lever while installing the lens onto the adaptor.

May I ask what adapter you got (link)? That might help narrow down your issue. Not all adapters are equal.

Thanks for the replies guys,

-Juud, you advice worked. When I was connecting the lens, the adapter pin was on the wrong side of the lens lever. I took your advice and aligned the lever on the otherside of the adapter pin. It works great now, thanks.

-KJ, I can't remember which one it is but I got the adapter on eBay from a UK seller. There are only two UK sellers on eBay so it's either one of them.

I am actually surprised with the lens itself. I thought the FD 50mm 1.8 would have been much better in low light conditions than it is. I guess that I'll have to look into getting a Canon 50mm 1.4 or even the 1.2 for my low light shots.
