Canon EOS RP SPecs are out - possibly?

Updated rumor says it has 4K video, lol.

They are being really tight-lipped with this camera. Not even 24 hours before the announcement is anyone confidently sharing any video specs. Might be a first.

Not to hype it up because I don't think it's going to be anything special, but I just personally want to know if it has DPAF in 4K and C-Log, and that's not even known.

I really need the manual to know more, or someone like Cinema5D to release their write-up if they made one for this camera (which they most likely did from hands-on experience and are waiting to publish it after midnight EST tonight).

The inputs/outputs are already confirmed.

Most likely no 10-bit external (would have shown that in the specs), but a 4K output would be a true delight (this is what Canon has done to me...something so simple as this is considered very special) vs. an HD-only output in 99% of their other cameras.

They never make the 4K sensor crop and/or 4K DPAF very clear in spec sheets (just the manual).

That's confirmed:

HDMI Output: 4K (UHD) and Full HD or HD recording, uncompressed YCbCr 4:2:2, 8-bit. Sound output via HDMI is also possible. When outputting to external monitor no images are recorded to the card and Wi-Fi communication is disabled.

No Canon Log! :crybaby:

While actual log (not emulations) is super useful, it's possible to get excellent results and good DR using custom picture styles (e.g Filmic Skin or one you create yourself).

Did that Canon discussion influence you or were you just enjoying a good debate? :)

haha, bro...I'm a 5D Mark II baby.

I just don't like when people declare something so subjective to be the best.

Like you can say this one does AF the best or that one does IBIS the best because the goal and end-result is obvious and conclusive, but not colors...way too many brains out there to see and process exactly what you're seeing in all of your meticulous testing. Especially with today's interesting color grading choices and general content turnaround.

If you said, "In my opinion, Canon's color science is the best", I wouldn't have argued with you until 5am in the morning.

Yup, the 5D Mark II is what got me started in more serious filmmaking: https://vimeo.com/4112787 (back then debate was 30p vs 24p!) , and the 5D3 really upped image quality (back then debate was: "5D3 is too soft!!"; I showed post-sharpening worked great): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkFmhKoUEv4 . Autofocus started becoming a more serious (required feature) contender with the C300 II: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra_E_0-3nSE, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ulmgc_a39Q (A7S II looking decent (color, not AF!) compared to C300 II). Sheesh 76K+ views for trivial+quick test videos and lately get just a handful on more-produced/intentional content lol! So yeah, now working on avoiding gear 'rabbit holes' and instead on improving content quality.

Regarding opinion- isn't everything I say my opinion? Even science is opinion (real scientists understand this- when you read "98% of scientists agree" you should know that's a fabrication). Had debates on FB regarding certain concepts related to science and was difficult to get people to see things in a different way. They claimed not to be scientists (and I let them know that I was, but that should not influence their perceptions, instead focus on what is said WRT logic, reasonably verifiable facts, and common sense (the hardest thing for AI by the way!)).

So many people accepting so-called 'experts' or 'authority figures' (especially 'news') without thinking for themselves or doing research and forming their own perceptions (notice I didn't use 'conclusion'). This also applies to purchasing camera gear. Each time I purchase something without doing research (just sold the Ronin-M and was honest about battery issues to new buyer!) there's been a gotcha I would have learned had I spent more time doing my own due diligence/research instead of trusting what others said without further digging.

Canon* still has the edge (barely) for color, where Sony and others provide superior real detail, slomo, low light, and other features. Canon appears to be surpassed by Sony* for AF (A6400 and soon A7x III).

* all comments are my opinion from my unique point of view, as are your perceptions unique to your point of view. Debate/argument for entertainment value ;)

So the question is...which camera is next for jcs!?

C300 Mark II sold...check.
1DX Mark II about to be sold...check.

Honestly if I could hook up a Sony BSI FF PDAF sensor with decent 6-axis IBIS system to my iPhone-X and had the resources to train up an "AI Color" system, that would be my first choice. Waiting for the next crippled camera (typically Canon cripples detail/slomo, Sony cripples color (they did amazing color since at least the F35!)) isn't all that exciting. Last gear purchases (Moza Air 2 and DJI Ronin-M) had major defects... Which means the universe is sending a message: focus on content, dude! lol

Just saw the RP has 1.6 crop for 4K. If FF 1080p is legit, could make a nice upgrade for the 80D. A7SIII seems a long way away given the updates coming for the A7x III.

Supposedly the EOS R has high-quality cropped HD, but they disabled the better quality in 60p, so not sure it would matter much if it was the same in this one. No high-quality 60p stinks. That's what's really necessary since there is no 4K/60p...and of course Canon may also have disabled it here if it's like the EOS R...even with the different sensor crop. I doubt FF will be high-quality.
