[FS: General] Canon EOS C500PL with Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ Recorder/Monitor

Back in 2013 I went to a San Francisco film community get together with Canon to launch the EOS C500, with the help of the "Man and Beast" short film (https://youtu.be/Bujf1inn4vI) so beautifully shot by Jeff Cronenweth, and was blown away by the images it created - so very different to my shiny new RED Dragon.

For those who may not know the C500 story. At the time Canon sold the C500 for around $30k, before killing it by reducing the price to below $16k. It was used on a whole bunch of feature films, from Jason Bourne to The Man From UNCLE, and the well promoted use of it as an A Camera, pushing the Alexa to B, by Shane Hurlbut in Need For Speed. Shane's tests and articles on the choice between Alexa and C500 (https://youtu.be/zqAk-RmlUR0) make fascinating viewing. I bought my one because, with my colorist hat on, the C500 4k image recorded on an Odyssey 7Q+ cuts invisibly with Alexa ArriRAW, and very well with the RED Dragon, both of which I run.

When combined with the Odyssey, and the 7Q+ RAW package, the C500PL kicks out a full CanonRAW image in 10-bit at 4096x2160 at up to 60fps and record in it's native format or Apple ProRes. It can also kick out 2k or HD 12-bit RGB 4:4:4, which are recorded as uncompressed DPX streams by the Odyssey. And for a final trick, it can kick out Half RAW 4096x1080 at up to 120fps for the Odyssey to record. Of course, the camera also controls the Odyssey and passes through timecode and audio, and can record HD on board at the same time.

When not connected to the Odyssey, the C500 pretty much becomes a Canon EOS C300 - arguably the king of documentary film and corporate production for many years now - recording in HD with it's 8.85mp Super-35 CMOS sensor (the C300 is a lower 8.3mp) at 50Mbps 4:2:2. All in all its an incredibly flexible system, using the PL lens mount, and both an on-board EVF and an LCD screen, proper BNC and XLR connectors, Line and Mic Level Audio inputs, Genlock, Timecode and Sync... and all of those other little things that Arri and RED forgot.

Anyway, it's time for me to move on to new toys and so I'm reluctantly selling my:

* Canon EOS C500PL Camera Kit $4,500 OBO

* Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ Kit $1,400 OBO

Both are in good to very good condition and work perfectly. I also have CF card media for the C500 and SSD media for the Odyssey should you need it, plus a bunch of other pieces, a Zacuto C500 helmet and top handle kit, and a Zacuto C500 Z-Finder for the EVF... for a few extra dollars, of course! The equipment is in the San Francisco area and can be shipped anywhere at your cost, and I do have photos.

Let me know if you are interested and we can chat...
