Canon EOS C100

A 32GB iPhone has ~$4 higher component cost than a 16GB iPhone. Apple charges $100 more for it because they can get away with it.
And why shouldn't they? A free market means that a willing buyer and a willing seller agree on a price. It has nothing to do with what it cost to manufacture. Nor should it.

Canon charges you thousands of dollars for that stuff because they can get away with it.
They can only "get away with it" if people willingly pay the price they're asking. And why shouldn't they?

We're never going to do anything about their five-times-industry-average profit margins.
Why should you? Would you want Apple doing something about your above-minimum-wage salary? What business is it of Apple's, what you make? And what business is it of yours, what they make?

If you like their products, buy them. If you think they're too expensive, don't buy them. But that's where it stops.

If we get mad and tell Canon (and others), "In today's climate, it's possible to make money selling a 4K raw camera for $9k. You can no longer convince us that $8k is a fair price for highly compressed 1080p. Get real!" they might just have to.
Vote with your wallet. If Canon can't give away C100s, then they will "learn their lesson". And if Canon sells every C100 they can possibly make, then -- good for Canon, because obviously they'd be producing a product that people actually want to buy and find valuable.

But making a petition or getting mad because free people are freely engaging in free commerce? Sorry, that is just a bad idea.

I DO NOT get why people make these assumptions. Barry hit it on the head. That is the FREE market. Live with it and buy what you see is the value for you. I have a $4000 laptop. I MADE THE CHOICE to pay for that because I LIKE THE PRODUCT. I KNOW there is a laptop somewhere with similar specs for $2000. Probably made with plastic through and through. So I and I ONLY made the decision to pay what I thought the product was WORTH to me. And since I bought it, I see LOTS of others that did the same.

Let FREE markets reign. It's what GIVES YOU OPTIONS!

The way I see it.... People see a product that ticks their personal list of "value for money" and then assume every good thing in that camera should be available in every other camera that is the same price (and especially higher).

The BMCC has RAW/12 bit, fantastic.... But that does not mean that RAW/12 bit should be in every camera over $3k and it does not mean that every manufacturer who doesn't include it is ripping you off.

Anything under $20k or so is gonna have sacrifices... choose the one that ticks your boxes. Simple

Just did a quick search on Vimeo. Found some HV20/30 stuff converted 60i to 24p. Looks quite good. It would be interesting to see a c300 60i conversion compared to original c300 60p footage. I wouldn't mind if the conversion was a bit time consuming. I don't intend to shoot a lot of 50/60p footage. But it would be nice to be able to do so.

I have a HV20. It buried the 24 p in a 60i wrapper so this was the only way to get 24p. It is not a conversion like people are talking about here to 60 p from 60i.

Well here in PAL land life is a little easier working on a 25P timeline - 50i to 25P = 50 half frames to 25 full frames @ 50% speed, but Ive never bothered on the C300.

Just look at the numbers (active pixels - 3840x2160).... It is a sensor designed for perfect 1080p downscale with accurate colours. It is a video centric sensor, built from scratch for the Cxxx line.

It is not a DSLR sensor, why vladszp is saying that, only he knows.
thats also what i thought, you can't even compare the shots of a 1dx and a C-series camera.. its totally different in my opinion

This is an international forum, so let's please use a little better judgement and tolerance please. 1 post gone.

sorry guys but no mater how much u twist your logic u pay a lot of money for tweaked DSLR sensor ...

As many times as you type that, it doesnt bring it closer to being true so, please, enough.

I never messed around with that, so I might be wrong but what I've seen was real slowmo 60p played back @ 24p. Not 24p out of a 60i wrapper. (Anyway I hope that some Canon reps read this discussion that seems to take place half a decade ago, have mercy and push for implement 50/60p in the c100)

nope ...
that sensor is custom made by sony and that is a reason why it cost so much (it has diagonal-photosite arrangement)... arri alexa ALEV III is made by Cypress ...
sensor production is similar to CPU ... start with one design and than tweak or remove some option for different price range ...
nothing bad in that , its just how industry works ... i dont get it why so much people get offended by that ...it doesnt mean its a bad sensor ...

oh, did Canon start making their own sensors? I knew they bought them from sony in the past. Is this a fact or spec?

Pretty sure Canon make their own sensors.... It is Nikon that often use Sony sensors. I could be wrong though.

I'm in territory where i'm just guessing.... So i'm gonna bow out.

All i'll say is the Cxxx sensor is a thing of beauty and the shots i've done with the C300 are some of the nicest digital images i've seen. I've never been so happy to be "ripped off"

Yes. But you can't get 4K out of a C300, and you can't get it out of a C100 either. The sensor is 4k, but it is designed specifically to provide an optimized 1080p.

Yes, I knew it won't shoot 4K images, but it's an elegant solution to the Bayer sensor - just make the chip big enough so each color gets a true 1080 signal, or something like that.
This bodes well for the C100's images, i would think.

C100 with a nanoflash(or ninja) would turn it into a mini c300.

Just wait till c100 comes out and these external recorders gets tested. :h
