And why shouldn't they? A free market means that a willing buyer and a willing seller agree on a price. It has nothing to do with what it cost to manufacture. Nor should it.A 32GB iPhone has ~$4 higher component cost than a 16GB iPhone. Apple charges $100 more for it because they can get away with it.
They can only "get away with it" if people willingly pay the price they're asking. And why shouldn't they?Canon charges you thousands of dollars for that stuff because they can get away with it.
Why should you? Would you want Apple doing something about your above-minimum-wage salary? What business is it of Apple's, what you make? And what business is it of yours, what they make? We're never going to do anything about their five-times-industry-average profit margins.
If you like their products, buy them. If you think they're too expensive, don't buy them. But that's where it stops.
Vote with your wallet. If Canon can't give away C100s, then they will "learn their lesson". And if Canon sells every C100 they can possibly make, then -- good for Canon, because obviously they'd be producing a product that people actually want to buy and find valuable. If we get mad and tell Canon (and others), "In today's climate, it's possible to make money selling a 4K raw camera for $9k. You can no longer convince us that $8k is a fair price for highly compressed 1080p. Get real!" they might just have to.
But making a petition or getting mad because free people are freely engaging in free commerce? Sorry, that is just a bad idea.
