What am I missing about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II?

It can shoot 21.1 megapixel stills and 12 minutes of 1080 HD video through a 35mm lens.

What is the drawback from a video perspective beside the 12 min. limit?

Seems like it could be pretty handy for a photographer who wants to offer his clients a value-added service.

It is as editable as any consumer camcorder. As far as quality, only the AVC Intra 100 comes close. It blows away XDCAM EX, DVCProHD, and other AVCHD recorders. Part of Digic 4, the recording is in a wide variety of Canon cameras and produces amazing results in each (how about a $600 camera that can resolve a 1 pixel wide pole at 20-30IRE?)

The FF35mm sensor does bokeh as well as anything. The glass is excellent. The oversampled sensor benefits from Canon's leadership in still photography CMOS sensor design and oversampling moving the low pass optical filter way above 1080p resolution. The result is high MTF and vivid colors at spatial frequencies beyond all but the most elaborate cinema video cameras.

Many have successfully converted the frame rate to 24fps.

Negatives? No manual controls makes getting control a chore. On camera audio won't cut it. The H,.264 files are huge and will probably need to be transcoded. Cineform is another alternative for that. A working system for video could easily be $8k, about the price of an EX3 or HPX300.

It is widely considered the DVX100 of 2009.
