Canon EF to NEX Speedbooster on FS700

Does anyone else have this adapter for their Canon lenses? I am having a weird issue with mine and have a shoot coming up this week and hopefully can fix this before the shoot!

I received the adapter a few weeks ago, mounted my Canon EF glass on it (24-70II / 70-200II) and it works great! I went to a wedding and grabbed the new Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art lens to shoot with and the aperture worked great and operating the adapter was fine. I have since returned the lens to the rental company and put my Canon glass back onto to the adapter and it can't change the aperture anymore. I tried registering the lens like they say on their website, change the power modes (Green > Advanced) and restart my camera's settings. I am at a complete loss here and I feel like Metabone's support might not answer me in time. Has anyone else had this issue? Do I have a dud adapter somehow? I was stupid and brought mine from their direct website, not B&H. So returning it will take a few days. I am renting another one to cover my ass but I hope someone can help me fix this sooner.

My FS700 is FW 3.0.1 and the Metabones is Version 30. So I assume everything is updated.

Let me know your thoughts. I switched from Nikon to Canon and I really miss the manual control over the lenses with the Nikon G adapter. All this electronic controlling aperture really irks me.

Thanks,
Chris

I think you just have a dud. There's others who've had the same problem. Mine have worked well so far, knock on wood.

Yeah, when I say I can't change the aperture, I mean I can scroll on the wheel and it shows the numbers changing but the aperture on the actual lens doesn't move. So it isn't sending the correct data to the lens I assume.

ya i had the same thing happen. you'll have to talk to tech support and then see about sending it all the way back to china...

Bummer, man. Aperture issues with the non-Speed Booster actually got me to switch from Canon glass to Nikon. The Metabones would just randomly stop down to f/22 mid-shot. So I had to switch to full manual control.

Have you tried a reset on the adapter itself? there's a small black button on the bottom somewhere, hold that in for a couple of seconds as you're booting up the camera. See if that works!

This is why i originally bought 2x of the first Metabones. Backup...

But i only bought one Speedbooster, and ive just inserted the Sigma 24-105 on it and parked the cam in its bag. Will take a look and see if i also have an issue now.

This is a bit offtopic but does the Sigma OS work in 24-105mm with Metabones adapter?
I have the Techart Falcon and it doesn't. Iris works fine.
Thanks!

I had major issues with the Speedbooster abruptly changing the aperture during shooting with an 80-200 zoom. After sending the Speedbooster in for a firmware upgrade, the issue seems to be fixed. Unfortunately, the turn-around took about a month, having sent the Speedbooster back to China.

Stefan, where is this black button? I can't find it. There is the Wide Open button on the side and I have tried that doesn't work.

Yes, it does. Very pleased with that lens on the Metabones! But IT MUST BE OPERATED IN ADVANCED MODE TO WORK. In advanced mode, the Canon lenses gets more power from the adapter, as green mode is power saving, and its the default mode!

Luckily the Metabones adapters can be switched to always boot into advanced mode.

Both my Metabones (regular and Speed Booster) have always been in default Green Mode and I haven't really had any major problems with them. I noticed that most people who have issues with Metabones are using the Advanced Mode, so I've been a little reluctant to switch to Advance mode. Yeah, I would like the have the F-Stops in 1/8 increments instead of 1/3 in Green Mode; but I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi Chris - apologies, that is the button I'm talking about. I believe it switches back to green mode automatically if you simply switch off the cam, then back on without touching the button.

Well, the adapter came back from Metabones and is still broken. They have horrible support and are very hard to deal with. The contact there didn't even know they received it and it was shipped back to me. Not only have I had to rent the same adapter twice now, I have had to pay shipping back to them. I am also outside of disputing the transaction on Paypal and through my bank, so I am now begging for some sort of refund. Be cautious when you buy these and always buy them in the United States and throughly test them. If they break, good luck! I have no idea what is going to come from this.

Sadly, I feel like your experience is the norm. I haven't heard many good things about Metabones support. It's like if it's broken, you're S.O.L.

Sounds ripe for an American competitor. I'd definitely pay more for peace of mind.

It is sad too because I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't open up a case with Paypal within those 45 days before I sent it back. I thought they would fix it and I would have no issues. So frustrating. Just wanted to tell everyone here so if it happens to them, they don't get screwed!

A little update. I really complained and went after them in emails. They agreed to pay shipping back to them via Fedex account and send me a brand new. Will let you know what happens when its all said and done! :D
