Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L - Focus Ring Question

Where it says "infinite" there is a right angle line that appears to mark where infinite is on the focus ring, however the ring can still turn PAST this line even further.

Therefore, in order to set the focus ring "to infinite" should it be AT THE LINE or PAST IT?

those markings are usually not accurate - use live view with 10x magnification and a loupe, and you'll get an idea of where it is - then, next time you try to do it, the mark will be useless (as the focusing ring, IIRC, is stopless, as with most Canon L glass)

The reason you can focus past infinity is that the exact point of infinity changes as the lens expands and contracts slightly with temperature. The extra bit is to compensate for that. As Norman said, if you want perfect focus you are going to need to use the 10x magnification in live view or other tools. Everything else is just a "close enough for most people" guess.
